Connects two Tasks to record a dependency between their activities.
When to use it
Use Task Dependency to identify a dependency between activities when planning or reviewing work.
Records and direction
- Relationship type: Non-structure. Associates the records without creating a parent-child hierarchy.
- From: Task.
- To: Task.
How to use it
- Create the relation with drag and drop in a Structure widget: drag the intended Task onto the Task it relates to. Select Task Dependency, review the source, target, and any offered values, then confirm.
- Alternatively, use Connect from the source record and choose the target and Task Dependency relationship from the available options.
- Review the resulting connection in the structure or related information. Check the selected records, their versions where applicable, and the relationship filters if the link is not visible.
Example
Validate Seal Performance is connected to Complete Seal Design. The schedule and task descriptions explain which activity depends on the other.
What to check
The two Tasks have a dependency association. Read its direction in the work context and confirm that it matches the intended sequence.
Choosing the relationship
Task Dependency is non-structure; use Subtask for parent-child work. Do not assume creating the link automatically reschedules dates or prevents a task from starting.
