Use Kanban to organize objects as cards in columns. A board can help you review tasks or other work by lifecycle state or another configured attribute. Check the board’s source and column definition first, because the meaning of a column depends on its configuration.
Load and configure a board
- Open a Kanban widget and drag in the objects you want to review. A Quick Access board can instead use objects supplied by its configured source.
- Open Preferences and inspect the column attribute. This determines which object value places a card in each column.
- Review the optional grouping attribute, empty-column settings, and available filters.
- Read the column labels and counts, then select a card to inspect its object details.
- Use the card’s selection control when you need contextual commands for one or more objects.
Read columns and groups
A state-based board arranges cards by lifecycle state. Other boards can use a different supported attribute, such as an ownership or classification value. Optional grouping divides the board into separate groups within that column layout.
Filtering changes which objects you are reviewing. Check active filters and collapsed groups before interpreting a column count as the total amount of work in the platform. Objects without a value may appear in a No Value column when that attribute and board configuration support it.
Move cards deliberately
When editing and drag operations are available, moving a card to another column can request a change to the column attribute. For a state-based board, that involves a lifecycle state change and its rules. A card movement can therefore affect managed object data.
Keep a move within the same group. The current board prevents a drag from changing the grouping value by moving a card between groups. Review any selected cards before dragging, because a move can involve multiple selected objects.
A supported drop can submit the update immediately. Wait for success feedback and verify the resulting object values. Rejected updates can return cards to their previous positions. For other edits, complete any Save or confirmation step shown by the widget.
Troubleshooting
If an object is missing, check the source, filters, collapsed groups, and access rights. If it appears in an unexpected column, inspect its value for the configured column attribute.
If a drag has no effect, check whether the source and target groups differ, whether the column value actually changes, and whether editing is enabled. If the update is rejected, inspect permissions, reservation status, allowed values, and lifecycle rules. Use the object’s details to confirm the stored value before trying another operation.
