Use the Desktop widget to exchange supported files and object information between Nora IPLM and applications connected through Desktop Services. This overview explains connection checks, transfer direction, and reviewing a transfer. The exact commands depend on the selected application and the connector installed on your computer.
Before you begin
Desktop Services must be installed, running, and compatible with the platform. The required application and its Nora connector must also be available for the operation you intend to perform. Follow the relevant integration setup guide for application-specific installation requirements.
Sign in to the correct environment and workspace. You need access to the platform objects involved, and file updates may also require edit permission, an appropriate lifecycle state, or a reservation.
Check the connection
- Open the Desktop widget and read the connection indicator in its toolbar.
- Choose the intended application from the application selector. The available connectors depend on your Desktop Services environment.
- Review Preferences for the options available to that application and direction.
- Confirm that the expected platform objects or local files appear in the main area before choosing a transfer command.
Choose the transfer direction
From Platform is the workflow for bringing managed platform content into the connected desktop environment. Check the selected object, revision, and relevant structure before opening or transferring files.
To Platform is the workflow for bringing content from the connected application or local environment into Nora IPLM. Review the file list, metadata, object matches, and status information presented by the connector before continuing.
Transfer operations can create or update managed data depending on the command and connector. The direction selector alone does not complete a transfer. Review any confirmation dialog and wait for the operation’s result before assuming the local and platform content agree.
Verify the result
After a transfer to the platform, inspect the resulting objects and attached files. Confirm that names, revisions, and relationships match the intended work. After a transfer from the platform, check that the expected files opened in the correct application.
Use the existing Office upload guide for its specific steps. CAD connectors can involve assembly structures and application-specific rules, so use their own setup and transfer instructions as well.
Troubleshooting
If disconnected, start Desktop Services and recheck the widget’s status. If an application is missing, verify that its connector is installed and available. If a transfer fails, read the file or object status and check access, reservations, and connector configuration before retrying. Confirm the saved result after recovery to avoid treating an incomplete transfer as successful.
