Connects an Item, Product, or Model to a Material relevant to its definition.
When to use it
Use Material to associate an engineering or product definition with the material relevant to it.
Records and direction
- Relationship type: Non-structure. Associates the records without creating a parent-child hierarchy.
- From: Item, Product, Model.
- To: Material.
How to use it
- Create the relation with drag and drop in a Structure widget: drag the intended Material onto the Item it relates to. Select Material, review the source, target, and any offered values, then confirm.
- Alternatively, use Connect from the source record and choose the target and Material relationship from the available options.
- Review the resulting connection in the structure or related information. Check the selected records, their versions where applicable, and the relationship filters if the link is not visible.
Example
Housing H-100 is connected to Aluminum Alloy Grade A. The housing is the engineered part; the Material record describes the input associated with its definition.
What to check
Users can identify the relevant material without treating it as a child engineering component. Review the material grade and specification context.
Choosing the relationship
Material is non-structure. Material Usage represents a material input in a manufacturing structure, while Made From identifies a transformation source. These relationships have different meanings.
