Connects a Product to an engineering Item relevant to its definition.
When to use it
Use Product – Item to associate the broader product offering with its engineering definitions.
Records and direction
- Relationship type: Non-structure. Associates the records without creating a parent-child hierarchy.
- From: Product.
- To: Item.
How to use it
- Create the relation with drag and drop in a Structure widget: drag the intended Item onto the Product it relates to. Select Product – Item, review the source, target, and any offered values, then confirm.
- Alternatively, use Connect from the source record and choose the target and Product – Item relationship from the available options.
- Review the resulting connection in the structure or related information. Check the selected records, their versions where applicable, and the relationship filters if the link is not visible.
Example
Industrial Pump P-Series is connected to Pump P-100. The Product represents the offering, while the Item defines the engineering assembly and its children.
What to check
Users can navigate from the product context to its engineering information. The connection does not itself define the assembly’s component hierarchy.
Choosing the relationship
Choose Product – Item for engineering information relevant to a product. Subitem is the main relationship for the Item’s BOM. End Item identifies the end item of a Product, Program, or Project.
