Connects an Item to a Document containing work instructions relevant to it.
When to use it
Use Work Instructions when an engineering item needs an identifiable document explaining how work should be performed.
Records and direction
- Relationship type: Non-structure. Associates the records without creating a parent-child hierarchy.
- From: Item.
- To: Document.
How to use it
- Create the relation with drag and drop in a Structure widget: drag the intended Document onto the Item it relates to. Select Work Instructions, review the source, target, and any offered values, then confirm.
- Alternatively, use Connect from the source record and choose the target and Work Instructions relationship from the available options.
- Review the resulting connection in the structure or related information. Check the selected records, their versions where applicable, and the relationship filters if the link is not visible.
Example
Pump P-100 is connected to Pump Assembly Instructions, a managed Document explaining the assembly work. The document has its own revision and connected content.
What to check
The item has a direct association with its work instructions. Review the document and file appropriate to the intended work.
Choosing the relationship
Choose Work Instructions for an instruction document. Item – Document provides a general supporting-document link. Neither connection alone establishes that the instructions have been approved.
