Connects an Issue, change record, Idea, Problem Report, or Change Context to records affected by the work. It identifies the information being considered for change or investigation.
When to use it
The Change Cockpit is the main UI for managing change types and their relationships. Use Affected Item to identify the starting scope of an investigation or proposed change.
Records and direction
- Relationship type: Non-structure. Associates the records without creating a parent-child hierarchy.
- From: Issue, Change Request, Change Order, Change Task, Idea, Problem Report, Change Context.
- To: Item, Document, Mechanical Item, Requirement, Idea, Product, Electrical Item, Drawing, Software Item.
How to use it
- Create the relation with drag and drop in a Structure widget: drag the intended Item onto the Change Request it relates to. Select Affected Item, review the source, target, and any offered values, then confirm.
- Alternatively, use Connect from the source record and choose the target and Affected Item relationship from the available options.
- Review the resulting connection in the structure or related information. Check the selected records, their versions where applicable, and the relationship filters if the link is not visible.
Example
Improve Seal Design is connected to Seal S-10. The Change Request identifies the existing engineering definition that reviewers must consider.
What to check
The work record identifies affected information. Review the selected versions and the scope before evaluating or implementing a change.
Choosing the relationship
Affected Item can target several managed information types, including Documents and Drawings. Resulting Item identifies an Item outcome. Connecting an affected record does not itself modify that record.
