Connects an Item to a Software Item used as embedded software in its product context.
When to use it
Use Embedded Software when software must be identified as part of an engineering item’s product context.
Records and direction
- Relationship type: Non-structure. Associates the records without creating a parent-child hierarchy.
- From: Item.
- To: Software Item.
How to use it
- Create the relation with drag and drop in a Structure widget: drag the intended Software Item onto the Item it relates to. Select Embedded Software, review the source, target, and any offered values, then confirm.
- Alternatively, use Connect from the source record and choose the target and Embedded Software relationship from the available options.
- Review the resulting connection in the structure or related information. Check the selected records, their versions where applicable, and the relationship filters if the link is not visible.
Example
Pump Controller is connected to Pump Controller Software v1. The hardware and software remain separate managed Items so the team can review their version contexts together.
What to check
The engineering item identifies its associated software definition. Review which managed software revision is linked before relying on it.
Choosing the relationship
Select a Software Item as the target. A repository reference or uploaded File can support that definition, but does not replace the Embedded Software relationship.
