Use Import Files to upload one or more documents from your computer to Nora IPLM. You can add the imported documents to an existing or new platform folder, or upload them independently without a folder.
After the upload, Nora IPLM automatically opens the imported documents in the widget appropriate for the selected destination.
Open the Import Files window
- Locate the Import Files button in the upper-right toolbar. The button is represented by a document with an upward arrow.
- Select the button to open the Import Files window.
- Choose where the imported documents should be placed.
You can select and import multiple files at the same time.
Choose a destination
- Upload under a folder: Select or create a platform folder. Every imported document is added to that folder’s contents.
- Upload without a folder: Import the documents independently without assigning them to a folder.
Select the appropriate option and choose Continue.
Selecting a destination controls how the documents are organized and where they are displayed after the upload. It does not select files from your computer yet.
Upload under a folder
When you select Upload under a folder, the next step asks you to select an existing folder or create a new one.
Documents imported under a folder are connected to it using the Folder Content relationship.
The Choose files button remains unavailable until you have selected or created a destination folder.
Search for an existing folder
- Keep Search existing selected.
- Select the Platform folder search field.
- Search for a folder by its name or ID.
- Choose the intended folder from the matching results.
- Select Choose files after the folder has been selected.
Selecting the search field opens a list in which you can enter search text. If no folder matches the entered value, the list displays No matches.
Confirm the folder carefully before continuing so that the imported documents are added to the intended location.
Create a new folder
- Select Create new folder.
- Enter a name in the Folder name field.
- Select Create folder.
- Wait for the folder to be created and selected as the destination.
- Select Choose files.
The Create folder button is unavailable while the folder name is empty. Entering a name enables the button.
The Choose files button remains unavailable until the new folder has been created successfully.
Select files for a folder
- Select Choose files.
- Locate the documents on your computer.
- Select one or more files.
- Confirm the file selection.
The upload starts and an Importing files progress window appears. It shows that Nora IPLM is uploading the documents and adding them to the selected folder. The window also displays the number of files being processed.
Keep the application open until the upload finishes.
Review files imported under a folder
When the upload finishes successfully, Nora IPLM automatically opens the destination folder in the Structure widget.
The folder appears as the parent object, and each imported document appears beneath it with a Folder Content relationship.
Review the structure to confirm that the correct folder is open, every selected file appears beneath it, the imported objects have the Document type, the Folder Content relationship is present, and the displayed information is correct.
A confirmation message indicates how many documents were imported successfully and identifies the destination folder.
Upload without a folder
- Select Upload without a folder.
- Choose Continue.
- Locate and select one or more files on your computer.
- Confirm the file selection.
After you choose Continue, file selection is available directly because no platform folder needs to be selected or created.
The upload starts and an Importing files progress window appears. It shows that Nora IPLM is uploading the files and creating document objects. The window also displays the number of files being processed.
Keep the application open until the upload finishes.
Review files imported without a folder
When the upload finishes successfully, Nora IPLM automatically opens the imported documents in the Table widget.
Each imported file appears as an independent document object. Use the table to review information such as Name, Revision, State, Type, Owner, Document ID, Workspace, and Latest iteration.
Because this method does not assign a destination folder, the documents are not connected through a Folder Content relationship during import. You can organize them later if needed.
Change the destination choice
Use Destination at the top of the folder-selection step to return to the previous screen and choose a different destination method.
You can switch between uploading under a folder and uploading without a folder before selecting files.
Select Cancel or the close button to leave the import window without continuing.
Understand destination behavior
- Files uploaded under a folder are connected to that folder through the Folder Content relationship and open automatically in the Structure widget.
- Files uploaded without a folder are created as independent document objects and open automatically in the Table widget.
Uploading under a folder does not merge the documents with the folder. The documents remain individual platform objects.
Uploading without a folder does not prevent the documents from being organized later. It only means that no destination folder is assigned during the import process.
Creating a folder from the Import Files window creates a platform folder that can also be used for later organization, subject to your permissions.
Troubleshooting
If Choose files is unavailable while uploading under a folder, select an existing folder or create a new one first.
If an expected folder does not appear, search using its complete name or ID and confirm that you have permission to access it.
If the search displays No matches, check the search text or select Create new folder.
If Create folder is unavailable, enter a folder name in the required field.
If a folder cannot be created, check whether the name is valid and whether your account has permission to create platform folders.
If you selected the wrong destination method, use Destination to return to the previous step before choosing files.
If an uploaded document does not appear beneath the selected folder, reopen the folder in the Structure widget and confirm that the Folder Content relationship was created.
If a document uploaded without a folder does not appear, reopen or refresh the Table widget and search for the document by name or Document ID.
If a file cannot be selected or uploaded, confirm that your account has document-import permission and that the file meets the platform’s configured upload requirements.
