Use the Search widget to find and review platform objects in a dashboard view. It combines search criteria with a result table so you can narrow a population, inspect individual objects, and pass the relevant results into other work. This guide focuses on the widget rather than the platform header’s quick search.
Run a focused search
- Open a Search widget and review its filter panel.
- Choose the object types relevant to your question and add the available attribute criteria. Begin with a small set of criteria you can verify.
- Run or apply the search using the controls shown by the widget. Wait for results to finish loading before judging the returned set.
- Review the result rows and column headings. Select an object to inspect its details.
- Refine the criteria and search again when the results are too broad or do not answer your question.
Understand the results
Results depend on both the criteria and your access rights. A missing object can be outside the active criteria, unavailable in the current access context, or not yet reflected in the search results after a recent change.
Different object types can expose different attributes. Check which fields apply to the selected types before combining conditions. When a query returns unexpected results, simplify it and add conditions one at a time so you can identify the condition that changes the population.
Make the result table useful
Use Preferences to review the available table presentation. Check visible columns and use sorting where available to make the returned values easier to scan. A column with an empty value does not necessarily mean the object is incomplete; the attribute may not apply to that object type.
Use the available object commands or open selected results in another supported widget for further work. If widget pairing is configured, a result selection can update a paired Details or Viewer view. Confirm the receiving widget’s loaded object before editing or reviewing content.
Reuse search criteria
For a repeated question, use the platform’s saved filter workflow and, when appropriate, add the filter to Quick Access. Saved criteria provide a reusable query; the objects returned can change as data and access rights change. See the existing filter guides for creation and Quick Access steps.
Troubleshooting
For no results, clear restrictive criteria, check the selected types, and test with a known object. For too many results, add a precise condition and confirm which attribute it uses.
If the table fails to load, check your connection and retry. If an expected recent update remains absent after a refresh, compare the object’s details with the search criteria and ask your administrator to check search indexing when needed.
