Places a Task under another Task as a subtask. It breaks a larger activity into smaller tracked activities.
When to use it
Use Subtask to split a larger Task into smaller activities that need separate identities and tracking.
Records and direction
- Relationship type: Structure. Places the target record within the source record’s hierarchy.
- From: Task.
- To: Task.
How to use it
- Create the relation with drag and drop in a Structure widget: drag the intended Task onto the Task it relates to. Select Subtask, review the source, target, and any offered values, then confirm.
- Alternatively, use Connect from the source record and choose the target and Subtask relationship from the available options.
- Review the resulting connection in the structure or related information. Check the selected records, their versions where applicable, and the relationship filters if the link is not visible.
Example
Validate Pump contains Measure Seal Leakage as a Subtask. The smaller activity has its own work description and can be reviewed independently.
What to check
The child Task appears under the parent Task. Keep its scope clear so the team understands how it contributes to the larger activity.
Choosing the relationship
Use Subtask for a task hierarchy. Use Task Dependency for a sequencing or dependency association. A parent-child link alone does not establish automatic progress roll-up or completion.
