A Baseline is a named reference point for managed information at a particular stage. It gives the team a way to return to the same review context and, when included, the associated structure.
When to use it
- Use it at a review or milestone when a reference set needs to be identified.
- Use it when later work needs to be compared with the information captured for that reference point.
Key information
- Reference identity: name and description.
- Managed context: revision, state, owner, and workspace.
- History: creator and creation or update dates.
Common relationships
- Baseline connects an eligible managed record to its baseline reference.
- Attachment can associate supporting managed records with the baseline.
Working with this record
Use Create Baseline on the intended record, enter a meaningful Baseline Revision Name, and select Include Structure if that structure belongs in the reference point. After saving, review the captured content. Create another baseline when a later stage needs its own reference.
Example
Pump P-100 Design Review is a Baseline created for the pump review with its structure included. The team refers to that baseline when considering later changes to the housing and seal, so the review context remains identifiable.
Choosing the right type
Choose Baseline for a reference point. Choose Revise when a managed record needs a new revision. Creating a baseline does not approve a design or declare it released; those decisions follow the relevant record process.
