The Start Workflow command is available for Workflow type objects in Nora IPLM. This command is used to start a workflow that has already been initialized and is currently inactive.
By separating workflow initialization from execution, Nora IPLM allows teams to prepare workflows in advance and start them only when they are ready. The Start Workflow command provides a clear control point to activate workflows at the appropriate time.
Why Use the “Start Workflow” Command
In PLM processes, workflows are often prepared earlier but need to be executed at a specific moment. The Start Workflow command supports this requirement by allowing teams to control exactly when workflow execution begins.
You can use this command when:
- A workflow has already been initialized and reviewed
- Workflow execution needs to be delayed until a specific condition is met
- Tasks and notifications should start only after final confirmation
- Process timing must be carefully controlled
What Happens When a Workflow Is Started
When the Start Workflow command is executed:
- The workflow becomes active (its state becomes “In Work”)
- The first task in the workflow is created
- Notifications are triggered according to workflow rules
Once started, the workflow follows its defined execution path.
Where to Find the “Start Workflow” Command
You can access the Start Workflow command from multiple locations in the platform.
The command is available from the Workflow Commands submenu:
- From the right-click menu of Workflow type objects
- From the widget toolbar of widgets that display Workflow type objects
This ensures consistent access wherever workflows are managed.
How to Use the “Start Workflow” Command
