Purpose
The Metrics Widget in Nora IPLM allows users to display key metrics and KPIs on their dashboards. Selecting the correct data source is essential to ensure the widget reflects the information you want to monitor, such as active tasks, items, or project-related metrics.
How Data Sources Work
When you open a Metrics Widget, a pop-up immediately appears, prompting you to select the data source. You have three options:
- Filters Only: Displays metrics based on custom filters you create. This is the most common option for regular users.
- Methods Only: Displays metrics using predefined methods configured by admins or advanced users.
- Filters and Methods: Combines filters and methods, but both must be compatible.
For most users, Filters Only is the recommended choice.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open the Metrics Widget: Click on the Metrics Widget in your dashboard. The Data Source pop-up will appear automatically.
- Select Data Source: Choose Filters Only, Methods Only, or Filters and Methods based on your needs.
- Choose the Filter (if Filters Only is selected):
- A list of available filters will appear.
- Select the filter you want to track as a metric.
- Example: The “My Active Tasks” filter displays the number of active tasks assigned to you. Suppose it shows 12 tasks initially. If a task is completed and real-time updates are enabled, the count will automatically update to 11 according to the refresh interval.
- Add Additional Metrics (Optional): Click the plus icon (+) in the widget to reopen the Data Source pop-up and select a filter or method for a second metric, or continue adding more metrics as needed.
- Confirm Selection: Click Apply to save your data source selection. The metric(s) will now display on your dashboard.
Tips & Notes
- Real-Time Updates: If enabled, metrics will refresh automatically to reflect changes, such as completed tasks or updated item counts.
- Filters and Methods Compatibility: Only select this option if the filter and method are designed to work together; otherwise, the widget may not display correct data.
- Custom Metrics: You can select multiple filters across different widgets to track a variety of KPIs simultaneously.
- Best Practice: Regular users should stick to Filters Only to simplify setup and avoid compatibility issues.
Summary
Selecting the correct data source in the Metrics Widget ensures your dashboard accurately reflects the metrics that matter to you. By using Filters Only for common scenarios, users can easily track active tasks, item counts, and other KPIs, with optional real-time updates to stay informed as data changes. Adding multiple metrics in the same widget allows monitoring several KPIs at once for a more comprehensive view.
