Import Structure from Excel Command

Purpose

The Import Structure from Excel command in Nora IPLM allows users to quickly upload and build complex structures using a pre-defined Excel template. This feature is ideal for transferring data from existing systems or preparing structures offline before uploading them into the platform.

When to Use

  • You want to create a new structure in bulk instead of adding items manually.
  • You already have structured data stored in Excel format.
  • You need to transfer hierarchical data into Nora IPLM for immediate use.

Required Template Fields

The Excel template includes the following mandatory columns:

  • Level – Defines the hierarchical level of the object in the structure.
  • Name – The object’s name.
  • Relationship (Relation) – Specifies the type of relation to the parent object.
  • State – Defines the current lifecycle state of the object.
  • Type – Indicates the object type (e.g., item, task, material, project).

⚠️ Structures cannot be imported without these required fields.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Accessing the Command

  1. In the top-right corner of Nora IPLM, click Import Structure from Excel.
  2. A pop-up window will appear with two options: Upload and Download Template.

Downloading the Template

  1. Click Download Template.
  2. The Excel template with the required fields (Level, Name, Relationship, State, Type) will download.
  3. Fill out the template with your structure data.

Uploading a Structure

  1. In the same pop-up, click Upload.
  2. Select your completed Excel file from your computer.
  3. An Operation in Progress indicator will display while the system processes the file.
  4. Once complete:
    • ✅ Success: A confirmation message will appear, and the uploaded structure will open automatically in the Structure Widget.
    • ❌ Failure: An error notification will display with details about why the upload failed (e.g., missing fields, invalid data).

Tips & Notes

  • Always use the official template to avoid formatting or data validation errors.
  • Large structures may take longer to process.
  • Uploaded structures can be modified after import directly in the Structure Widget.

Troubleshooting

  • Template upload fails: Check for missing or incorrectly formatted mandatory fields.
  • No confirmation received: Refresh the widget to confirm if the upload was successful.
  • Wrong data displayed: Verify that all fields in the Excel sheet match the required format.
