Changes are constant. Requirements shift, suppliers replace parts, and design reviews uncover issues. Nora IPLM turns that activity into an organized flow where every change has a reason, an owner, and a clear history.

You can capture proposed changes in one place, route them for review, and connect each change to affected items so nothing gets lost. Built in change specific commands, workflows, versioning, and traceability give engineers and managers the context they need to understand impact, estimate cost, and make confident decisions.

How to Create a Change Request and connect an Affected item?

Open the Affected Item that is to be connected to a Change process in a structure Widget.

2. Select the Affected Item and connect it to the new Change Request.

3. In the “Connect to Change Request” pop-up, enter an appropriate name and a suitable Operation Category.

4. Select the operation category as “Revise” to revise the released affected item and apply changes/modifications. Click on Create initiate the Change request.

5. Change Request created successfully.

6. Click the Edit to update Change Request details and specifications.

7. Add an appropriate Description and select the relevant Change Type.

8. Similarly, select an appropriate Change Category.

9. Add all the remaining details and include clear instructions outlining the objective and the actions required to complete this Change Request.

10. After adding all relevant details and specifications, click Save to update the Change Request.

11. Change Request updated successfully.

12. Click on “Affected Items” tab of the relations pane of the “Change Request” to verify that the correct item is added.

How to share the Change request and request for approval?

1. Click Share Object to distribute the Change Request with collaborators.

2. Select the appropriate users or groups to share the Change Request.

3. After adding a message, click Share to send the Change Request to the selected users.

4. Click the Login button to authenticate and access your account to act on the Change Request.

5. Click the notification to open the shared Change Request.

5. Review the change implementation instructions and perform the tasks to complete the Change Task.

Your Complete Guide to Creating Documents with Quick Create

Designs move fast, and often you need to generate new documents on the fly. Nora IPLM makes that simple.

Open Quick Create, pick “Document,” and instantly spin up new items with the right metadata, file attachments, and relationships – no context switching required. Whether you’re making specs, work instructions, or supporting files, Nora’s PLM system lets you keep everything structured and linked.

Now, let’s walk through how to do this step by step.

How to create documents using Quick create

Click on “Quick Create”.

2. In the Quick Create pop-up, select Type as Document and enter the document name and relevant details.

3. Click on the File field to browse (or drag and drop) the document you want to upload, then click Open.

4. Click Create to upload and register the document in Nora IPLM.

5. The document is uploaded successfully.

6. Click the Viewer icon to open a preview of the uploaded document.

7. Scroll up and down to easily preview the document within the viewer.

8. Use “Open in Viewer” for enhanced readability and full document access.

9. The document is displayed in the viewer, allowing smooth scrolling and full preview.

How to Edit Documents Inside the Platform

1. Open the document you want to edit in the Viewer.

2. Click on “Edit” to enable document editing mode.

3. After making the necessary changes, click “Save” to update the document or “Save and Iterate” to create a new iteration with the latest updates.

How to Edit a Document Using Check-In and Check-Out

1. Open the document that needs modification in any widget and select “Check-Out” from the Document commands.

2. Browse to a suitable location on your system to download the file and click Save.

3. Locate the downloaded file and open it in Microsoft Word (or the respective application).

4. Make the required edits, save your changes, and close the document. Then click “Check-In” in the platform.

5. Browse or drag and drop the updated document for upload.

6. After selecting the file, choose “Create Iteration” to save it as a new version and complete the Check-In process.

7. The document has now been successfully updated and checked back into Nora IPLM.

How to Connect Documents to an Object

Open the Program, Project, or Item to which you want to associate a document. In this Example: Open a Program, right-click, and select “Quick Create with Relations”.

2. Set the Type as Document, provide a suitable name, and choose the correct Relationship type based on the document’s purpose.

3. Click Create to confirm the document creation.

4. The new document is successfully created and linked.

5. Update the Relationship Manager filter to display the associated document in the structure view.

6. Alternatively, a document can be dragged and dropped directly onto an Item to automatically create a relation based on its type.

7. Similarly, a document can also be dragged and dropped to a Project, and the relation can be defined according to the document type.

Streamlined Document Management with Nora IPLM Platform and Desktop Services App – Part 1

Creating and managing documents can feel like a chore, especially when you are juggling CAD files, specs, and revisions. Nora IPLM’s Desktop Services App changes that by letting you create, edit, and sync your files directly from your computer with full version control and traceability.

Whether you are drafting a new spec, collaborating on design reviews, or organizing project documentation, Nora IPLM keeps everything connected and easy to manage.

In this guide, we will walk through how to use the Desktop Services App together with the Desktop widget inside Nora IPLM to create documents step by step.
Note: This feature is only available on Windows for now.

How to Create and Upload Documents with the Nora IPLM Desktop Services App and Desktop Widget

To upload a document from any Microsoft Office application to Nora IPLM, launch the Desktop Services App on your Windows PC and open the Microsoft Office file you want to upload. Then go to the Nora IPLM platform and open the Desktop widget. In this example, we will use a Word document.

2. You can see that Microsoft Word is selected by default. You can use the toggle to view other available applications for data synchronization. The Desktop widget automatically detects the active applications on your machine, whether they are CAD tools or Office applications, as shown in this example.

3. Click “Get Data” to get the document data from Microsoft Word.

4. The document is now retrieved and ready for upload.

5. Click “Sync Data” to upload the document. Nora IPLM will prepare and synchronize the document from Word to the platform.

6. The document has been successfully synced from Microsoft Word to Nora IPLM.

7. Hover over the thumbnail to view the image of the uploaded document.

8. In the Info Pane on the right side of the screen, click the Viewer icon to open the document preview.

9. Scroll up and down to easily preview the document within the viewer.

10. Right-click the document and select “Open in Viewer Widget” for enhanced readability.

11. The document is displayed in the viewer, allowing smooth scrolling and full preview.

12. To open a document directly in Microsoft Word from the platform, right-click the object and select “Open in Microsoft Word”. This command updates automatically based on the file type of the document. For example, if the document includes an Excel file, the option will appear as “Open in Microsoft Excel”.

13. The document is successfully opened in the Microsoft Word Desktop Application.

As designs evolve, requirements shift, and reviews surface new insights, managing changes effectively becomes essential for product quality and delivery. Nora IPLM keeps every modification controlled, traceable, and aligned with your product goals.

In this part, you will learn how to approve a change request, generate a new change order, create and assign change tasks, work through required updates, and complete the full change process. With structured workflows, version control, and built-in traceability, teams can assess impact, collaborate with clarity, and execute changes with confidence.

Let’s walk through each step of the advanced change management workflow in Nora IPLM.

How to Approve a Change Request and create a new Change order?

1. After reviewing the Change Request, click the state to approve it.

2. Select Approved from the dropdown to set the Change Request to the approved state.

3. Click on “OK” to Approve the Change request.

4. The Change Request has moved to the Approved state, triggering automatic creation of a new Change Order.

5. Open the “Change Request – Change Order” tab in the Relations pane to view the newly created Change Order.

6. Right click on the Change Order and Click on “Open in Structure”.

7. The new Change Order is displayed along with the corresponding affected item in the Structure widget.

8. Open the Change Order in the Details widget and note that all the details are automatically transferred from the Change Request to the Change Order.

How to Create a Change Task from the Change Order?

Open the Change Order in any Widget and Click on “Create Change Task”.

2. Select the affected items and click Create Change Task.
Note: If there are multiple affected items, they can either be added to a single Change Task or split into multiple Change Tasks based on the nature of the tasks and the assigned users.

3. Add an appropriate Change Task name and description, select an assignee, and click Create to generate the Change Task.

4. Change Task created successfully.

How to work on a Change Task?

Open the Change Task in any Widget and Read the instructions carefully to understand and proceed with the next steps to complete the Change Task.

2. After reviewing the Change Task, promote it to “In Work” to automate the Operation Category selection.

For example, if the affected item is set to “Revise,” it will advance to the next revision, allowing the assignee to modify it.

3. The affected item has been automatically revised and added as a Resulting Item.

4. The Resulting Item is automatically added to the Change Request and Change Order as well.

5. Review the change implementation instructions and perform the tasks to complete the Change Task.

How to Complete the Change Task and Change Process?

After completing the Change task as per the instructions, Open the Change Task and click Finalize to complete the process.

2. The Change Order and Change Request are all automatically completed upon Change Task completion there by completing the Change Process.

Designs move quickly in SolidWorks. Sometimes you need to add an item that wasn’t in the original model. Nora IPLMmakes that simple.

Extend product structures imported from SolidWorks directly in your PLM workspace. Add new items and subcomponents, including software items and documents, keep them linked to your CAD data, and keep the structure complete and accurate.

Whether you are building a BOM, managing design changes, or planning production, Nora IPLM keeps your structure organized, current, and ready for what comes next.

Now, let’s walk through how to do this step by step.

How to Insert a New Item into a Structure Imported from SolidWorks

Open the “Drone Final Assembly” in the Structure Widget.

2. Right-click on the root item and select “Quick Create with Relation

3. In the pop-up box, select the Type as Item, enter an appropriate Name, choose the desired Relationship Type, and click Create to add the new item as a sub-item.

4. The new Sub-item is now successfully added to the root item

5. Similarly, use “Quick Create with Relation” to add additional sub-items under the Drone Harness Subassembly as required

How to Add ‘Material’ and ‘Supplier’ to a Structure

1. Right-click on the item for which you want to add a Material, and select “Quick Create with Relation.”

2. Set the Type as Material, provide a Name, and set the Relationship to Material. Then, click Create

3. In the Relationship Manager, select Material and click OK to display the created material in the structure.

4. To add a Supplier, right-click the same item and select “Quick Create with Relation.

5. Set the Type as Supplier, enter a Name, and set the Relationship to Supplier. Then, click Create.

6. In the Relationship Manager, select Supplier and click OK to display the supplier in the structure.

7. Repeat the above steps to add Material and Supplier details for all sub-items in the structure as needed.

Where-Used Analysis with Reverse Hierarchical View.

1. In “Structure Options”, select the “Reverse” direction to view the where-used and click on “OK”.

2. The reverse hierarchy of the “Polyolefin” material is displayed.

BOM Management Made Simple: Easily Manage and Populate Objects using Mass Update.

Open the Drone Wiring & Harness Assembly in structure mode

2. Click “Edit” to make changes, and use “Mass Update” for bulk attribute updates.

3. Right click on “Item Type” column and click on “Mass Update”.

4. Select the desired value to update the value for all selected objects and Click Save to apply changes to all selected objects.

5. Similarly, update all other attributes in one go using Mass update.
